In the last project, students built up values by hatching. With this project, students took the skill a step further and built up values only using words. Micrography is a 9th century Hebrew artform. Students began with a photo reference, which they then enlarged by hand through the process of grid enlargement. They shaded this drawing to show the different values throughout the picture. Then they traced around the shapes on their value drawing onto a new paper lightly with pencils. Using fine tipped sharpie markers, students wrote words smaller and more densely to create dark areas and larger and more spaced out to create light ones. Here are the results!
