Scratchboard

Students just finished a Scratchboard Unit. They began by finding a photo that they wanted to base their scratchboard off of. Then, using Adobe Photoshop, they made their photo black and white and and bumped up the contrast. Next, students taped their photo over a piece of scratchboard and traced around the contour lines. Scratchboard is black and when scratched with needle like tools reveals a white, silver or gold interior layer. Students where instructed to scratch away the light areas of their image, building up different values through hatching. Here are the results!

Derek Brasch, Jeff Buchanan, Leigh Anne Hood and Gage Anderson were recognized in the Phoenix Log this week for having their work shown at the Alaska Region of the Scholastic Art Awards at the MTS Gallery.
