For their last art project of the year, students studied the pop paintings of Roy Lichtenstein, who is most known for making large paintings of existing comic-strip frames, with only minor changes of color and form from the original source material. Lichtenstein painted using the primary colors: red, yellow and blue and created different hues by utilizing Ben-Day Dots.
Students made their own Lichtensein-style paintings. They began with a comic, which they redrew on a large scale, and then painted with tempera paint. They used honeycomb ribbon, which is the byproduct of making sequins, as a stencil to draw even dots with markers or paint. Then they came up with their own captions. Here they are, have a great summer!
